Malawi, conocido como ’ el corazón caliente de África ’ y ’ de la tierra del lago ’. Africa’s Lake Malawi is the world’s 10th largest and 4th deepest lake, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It forms the border between Malawi and Mozambique and features sandy beaches and clear water. There are a number of places to stay along the Lake: In Cape Maclear has been created the First Freshwater National Park.
Cape Malear is a scuba divers paradise, and will not disappoint even the most sophisticated diver, but to see the fish you don’t need to dive deep, a simple swim with a mask will be sufficient to see clouds of coloured fish come towards you.
The diving here is great: the water is warm – no wetsuit needed, at least for snorkeling – there’s a wreck to investigate, and there’s no current.
If you’re going to Malawi, and if you’ve been thinking about getting PADI certified, this is the place to do it:

During your stay in Cape Maclear, you can also try any of the restaurants along the beach, we recommend you the following:
* Gaia House Restaurant, offers the best quality food at affordable prices.
* Fat Monkeys is an open-air restaurant on the south end of the village. They have good Western-styled food (try the pizza) and sometimes play host to lively parties at night.
* Froggies Restaurant is an excellent restaurant with French attitude located in Cape Macl Lodge, just before Fat Monkeys.
* Gecko Lounge has a good restaurant and local specialties, and a fully loaded shop for snacks and chocolate bars!.
* Thomas’s has a simple restaurant and local specialties (good chicken curry), along with a noisy bar!.
There are several small Malawian restaurants along the main road. If you want a great, reasonably priced seafood dinner ($2 or so for a big Chambo fillet), try any of them. A reservation is a good idea, not because the restaurant is likely to be crowded, but rather, so the owner knows he’s going to have some business.
Be sure to eat some of the chips (french fries) the boys sell along the main road (African Mac Donalds!) . They’ll fry them fresh, and they make a great snack. If you order them regular, be prepared for "soggy" fries. If you want them crispy, order them "brown." For lunch, grab some chips, buy some bread ( scono) and tomatoes, and have tomato sandwiches and chips.
Don’t forget to arrange with one of the beach boys for an evening fis dinner on the beach. It’s a lot of fun. Be careful, though — they’re likely to come back and ask for more money, for any number of reasons. Be firm but respectful.
For self catering groups, try the market in Chembe village for fresh products and vegetables.....

Froggies: A French restaurant in Cape Maclear!
Few hundred meters after Gaia House toward Chembe village on the beach is a formidable gustative experience!
Cape Mac Lodge is a lovely establishment is offering elegantly decorated rooms (with lofts) for singles, couples or families. Premises include a small inground pool just perfect for lounging with a drink in your hand from the well stocked bar and restaurant.

The chicken farm project in Cape Maclear was initiated in 2006 to provide alternative nutrition source to Chembe village and develop a sustainable program to provide eggs and chicken for all the village.
This project has started in 2006 and the farm employed up to 12 people throughout the year.
The chicken project is today in standby and we are waiting for Alan Joffe, the directing manager of the project, to come back to Cape Maclear !!!! Hopefully the garden is still operating and provide the village some premium vegetables, biologically grown without chemical fertilizer.
We, at Gaia House, trully support this project and our kitchen regularly buy fresh vegetables, spices and eggs at the farm,
